Reconditioning of silica gels.
RECONDITIONING OF SILICA GELS
REMOVING MOISTURE: Lowering RH of silica gels may be done by slowly heating the beads to a temperature above 212° F (but never above 350°F) until the desired relative humidity is acheived. Cooling of the heated silica gel must be done in a humidity controlled environment so as not to reabsorb unwanted moisture.
ADDING MOISTURE: Rising RH of silica gels may be done by adding moisture slowly over a period of many hours or days until the desired relative humidity is acheived. A humidifier or PVA sponges with a closed environment works well.
TESTING RH: Testing RH of silica gels must be done in a humidity controlled environment (a large plastic bag works well).
