Hide Glues or animal glues are essentially natural high-polymer proteins. These organic colloids are derived from collagen, which is the protein constituent of animal hides, skins, connective tissue, and bones (eew!). Animal glue is used in a wide range of art conservation, restoration and gilding applications such as: furniture restoration, painting consolidants, china and glass repair, canvas sizing and the making of gesso. Most animal glues have a dry moisture content between 11-14 percent and range in pH from 6.5 to 7.5. Once made up, animal glues will support the growth of mold, to prevent this, keep these product refrigerated when not being used.
This is a good, medium strength hide glue. It's the best grade of hide glue for use in furniture restoration. This glue will form strong joints that can be more easily reversed then our 5A grade.
